APAAR ID

Also called: Automated Permanent Academic Account Registry, One Nation One Student ID

How it works

CBSE circulars of August 2025 made an APAAR ID a precondition for board-exam registration of Class IX–XII students from the 2026 session. Parental consent is required, and for the 2026 candidate list schools could enter “REFUSED” or “NOGEN” where an ID was not generated.

The scheme is being challenged in the Supreme Court over consent, so the position can change. What does not change is the need for clean student records and a recorded consent status for every student.

Frequently asked questions

Can a parent refuse APAAR consent?

For the 2026 candidate list, CBSE allowed schools to enter “REFUSED” and keep the refusal on file, and the Supreme Court indicated that the consent form should allow refusal.
